For doctoral researchers

Course-No.: 2012-15_PZ

Date: 25.07.2012, 9:00 - 17:00 Uhr

Venue: MZH 1100

Trainer: Simone Gutbrod M.A. ICD-Experts, Bremen

Target group: Foreign and German doctoral researchers

Benefit: Learn to communicate effectively with Germans and people from other cultures

Content
To do excellent research in today`s globalised world, it is essential to work with scientists worldwide. However, this entails new challenges. Sometimes communication just works and people get along well. Yet sometimes, cultural differences lead to misunderstandings and frustration. The solution for improving cross-cultural teamwork is to be aware of the cultural values that profoundly influence thinking and communicating. The goal of this workshop is to enable us recognise and estimate cultural differences, as well as getting tools for effective communication and acting with people from other cultures. We will work on situations that we experience daily during our work, be it interaction with colleagues and supervisors, assignments, discussions or time planning. In this course, foreigners learn to understand German communication and behaviour. Germans, on the other hand, learn how they are perceived by others. Together, we will increase our cultural competence and have fun in a variable and interactive workshop.

Methods
Theoretical input will be predominated by variable interactive experiences. The choices include simulations, teamwork and active exchange of experiences.
