Sprache und Kultur

Jahr für Jahr treffen sich zur Sommerzeit rund 200 Menschen aus der ganzen Welt an der Universität Bremen: In vierwöchigen Kursen lernen sie die deutsche Sprache. Die Teilnehmer kommen aus allen Kontinenten; jeden Sommer sind mehr als 20 Nationen vertreten. In den internationalen Sommerkursen finden sie neue Freunde und Bekannte, erfahren Deutschland und die Bremer Landeskultur. Studienfahrten in die Umgebung gehören natürlich mit zum Programm. German Language and the History of Emigration to North America

Since the 19th century, seven million emigrants have undertaken the journey from the harbour in Bremerhaven, Germany to North America. This major pathway of immigration is the main focus of this summer program on the history of emigration and the role of Bremen and Bremerhaven. We will visit the German Emigration Center in Bremerhaven and learn more about the destiny of the emigrants in the last centuries. You will be able to track down your own family history or the destiny of other emigrants as a part of extended project work. Lecturers from different departments of the university will teach topics such as German history, history of emigration, integration, multicultural issues, and much more. In addition, we offer a rich cultural program, exploring Bremen and the vicinity. A trip to Germany‘s vibrant capital Berlin will round off the cultural experience of life and culture in modern-day Germany.

Sprache und Kolonialismus

Die diesjährige Interdisziplinäre Sommerakademie Bremen 2013 (ISAB-SuKo) findet vom 11. bis 25. August 2013 an der Universität Bremen statt und widmet sich dem Thema „Sprache und Kolonialismus“. Im Rahmen eines vielseitigen Kursprogramms beschäftigen wir uns über zwei Wochen mit Fragen nach kolonialen Machtverhältnissen im Kontext von Sprachkontakt, sprachgebundener Wissenskonstituierung sowie literarischen und filmischen Prägungen bzw. kolonialen Praktiken.
