BreMarE Day 2016

The next BreMarE Day will take place on 23 November 2016, 15:00-19:00 in lecture hall C300, NW2, University of Bremen. The topic of this symposium will be: Resources from the Sea. more »

Welcome to BreMarE - Bremen Marine Ecology - Centre for Research & Education

Bremen Marine Ecology - Centre for Research & Education concentrates on the investigation of ecosystem functions, acclimation strategies of marine organisms (ecophysiology), functional diversity in marine systems and trophic interactions, and biogeochemical pathways.

Marine scientists at BreMarE conduct research on burning issues related to global environmental and climate change, such as the biological impacts of ocean acidification and the expansion of oxygen minimum zones in the sea. BreMarE conducts research projects in the Tropics, and temperate and Polar seas, in coastal systems as well as the deep sea, applying state-of-the-art methods in ecophysiology, molecular biology, biochemistry and trace element analysis.

At the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry of the University of Bremen this institute encompasses the departments of

Marine Botany

Marine Chemistry

Marine Microbial Ecophysiology

Marine Zoology

Molecular Ecology

BreMarE coordinates the education in marine biology and marine chemistry at the University of Bremen, which is characterized by the strong interaction of training and research. The formation of young marine researchers already starts in the bachelor program of biology (“Profilschiene Meeresbiologie”).

Four consecutive, international MSc programs are offered at the Faculty Biology/Chemistry:

Marine Biology (MarBiol)

International Studies in Aquatic Tropical Ecology (ISATEC)

Erasmus Mundus Marine Biodiversity and Conservation (EMBC)

Marine Microbiology (MarMic)
