What are preparation studies?
Preparation studies in Bremen are for learning German. The studies are in preparation for the requisite German language examination (e.g TestDaF) and during this time students are already enrolled at the University of Bremen. Preparation studies do not count towards your main studies, they prepare you solely for the german test (e.g TestDaF). It is necessary to pass the German language examination because the medium of instrcution of the predominant part of the courses of our undergraduate subjects is German.
On paying the Semesterbeitrag (semester "contribution" approx. 242 €) you become an enrolled student of the University of Bremen. Among other things, this gives you the possibility to apply for a residence permit. You also obtain student documents (e.g a Semesterticket for use local public transport and student ID).
You book the German course at a language school in Bremen. In order to be enrolled in preparation studies you must attend an intensiv course in German. This must last for approx. 3 months in each semester and encompass 20 teaching periods per week. The courses must take place during the semester in which you attend preparation studies:
Preparation studies are for a maximum period of 4 semesters.
For more information on requirements and dates, go to Undergraduate Studies - Application.
Please note: We do not accept German language courses that do not fulfill the reqiurements mentioned above. Please keep in mind the teaching periods.
