Terms of Application

Winter semester: 15th July

Summer semester: 15th January (only for entering a course at a higher level)

There is no deadline in connection with applications for admission to preparation studies (preparation for the German language examination[PDF] (51 KB)). Applications can be submitted at any time.

Please apply via Uni Assist, if:

  • You did your school and university education outside of the European Union (EU)
  • You are seeking admission to an advanced course and are not able to have your original certificates evaluated by an authorized bureau in Germany (Bewertung ausländischer Bildungsnachweise)
  • You are a citizen of a member state of the European Union (EU) and do not have a sufficient command of German[PDF] (51 KB) to be able to study at the University of Bremen.

Please apply at the University of Bremen directly, if:

  • You are a citizen of a member state of the European Union (EU) and already have a sufficent command of the German language[PDF] (51 KB) to enable you to participate in a program of studies at the University of Bremen (Only onlien application, information by using the link)
  • You wish to apply for admission to a Masters Program
  • You are already enrolled or were in the past enrolled in preparation studies or in a degree program at the University of Bremen
  • You have already passed the final examination at a "Studienkolleg"
  • You are applying for admission in connection with a partnership program with the University of Bremen and your home university
  • You wish to apply to for a Free Mover stay as a visiting student at the University of Bremen

There is no charge for applications processed by the University of Bremen. 

Required Application Documents

In order to be complete your application must include the following documents:

  • A online application via uni assist (including a printed and signed application form) or, if you apply directly at the University of Bremen, a fully completed and signed application form[PDF] (195 KB)
  • A officially certified copy of your last school certificate with a list of grades for each subject (original and translation)
  • If applicable, an officially certified copy of your university entrance examnination (original and translation)
  • In the event that you have already studied elsewhere, an officially certified copy of your transcript of records (original and translation)
  • In the event that you have already studied elsewhere, an officially certified copy of your university degree certificate (original and translation)
  • An officially certified copy of your evidence of your current level of competence in the German language (information of minimum requirements can be found by clicking on the corresponding link[PDF] (51 KB))
  • If applicable, evidence of participation in a Prepare program or TestAS
  • Applicants from P. R. China, Mongolia or Vietnam must submit their original APS certificate

English-language documents need not be translated.

Submitted documents can on no account be returned or even lent out. We therefore ask you not to submit original certificates or translations (except the APS certificate where applicable).

Test of German Language (e. g. TestDaF)

Applicants must have a sufficient command of the German language before entering undergraduate studies at the University of Bremen. Evidence of sufficient competence in the German language can be evidenced by the  TestDaF or other German language tests recognized by the University of Bremen. Prepare or TestAS?

Applicants for admission to undergraduate studies in Betriebswirtschaftslehre/Business Administration (Bachelor) or Wirtschaftswissenschaft/Economic Sciences (Bachelor) must include evidence of successful participation in a Prepare-pro Program or TestAS. It is not possible to be admitted to the aforementioned degree programs without such evidence.

Additional Requirements

Some of the undergraduate programs offered at the University of Bremen may prescribe additional admission requirements, so-called studienspezifische Voraussetzungen (SSV). The additional admission requirements are program-specific requirements. Among other things, these may include periods of intership or specific foreign language requirements. Costs of Studies

The Semesterbeitrag (semester "contribution") currently amounts to approx. € 242. The Semesterbeitrag must be paid every semester. It covers costs of student documents like e. g. the Semesterticket (for use on local public transport), student identity card, matriculation certificates etc.

From the 15th semester of university studies within the European Union (EU) stduents will be charged tuition in an amount of € 500 per semester. Go to the link (only German language) for more information on tuitions and possible exemptions.
