Offerings surrounding doctoral studies

Acht Studierende an einem runden Tisch mit Laptop

The Graduate Center of the University of Bremen works under the mottos "PhD networks", "independent research" and "personality development". We will be pleased to inform you on any general issues surrounding your doctoral studies and inform you about our very varied qualification program, which also contains details of the training measures offered by our cooperation partners. We can also offer assistance in joining Doc-Networks and PhD success teams, in which doctoral students work together and offer reciprocal support.
Our team is here to help everyone who is either just interested in obtaining a PhD or has already been accepted as a doctoral student or their supervisors. For advice pertaining to your actual dissertation you should contact the professors in the respective faculties.

31.05.2012: Self- and Time Management

Time can not be bought, stored or stopped. Every second that passes is gone forever. In this respect it should be seen as the most valuable of all resources and the only way to maximize its potential is to use it well.
What “well” means in this context is a highly individual thing. You will leave the training with many insights on your own patterns and a toolset to increase effectivity and efficiency. You will have a chance to clarify and prioritise your values and goals and plan tasks and projects that align with your goals. You will identify your particular time wasters and adopt strategies for eliminating them from your work pattern. You will find out about your high energy periods and how to focus your attention.
As the planning of scientific research projects becomes more and more crucial, one training unit introduces this topic (more information).

15.05.2012: International Meeting

Dear international PhD students,
our next meeting will deal with your "Experiences and perspectives during the PhD process". We meet in the SFG building room 1210 at 4 pm.
Please tell other PhDs about the occasion!

Points to mention will be:
- helpful support during the PhD (examples, experiences, institutions, persons, etc.)
- problems during the PhD (e.g. with supervisors, colleagues, work/time management etc.)
- hopes and aims for the future part of your PhD project
- ...

Additionally a small group of guest researchers from the University of La Paz, Bolivia will join the meeting. They will tell us about their working conditions and they are very curious about the structures and developments at the University of Bremen - especially concerning the PhD level.

Please let me know if you like to participate.

I hope to see you soon,

Dr. Gilles Renout
