CRDF Calls

The Central Research Development Fund (CRDF) offers support for all stages of academic careers in the following eight funding lines.

All members of the academic community at the University of Bremen can receive quick and effective incentive for research projects in the form of uncomplicated knock-on financing for small-scale projects: from travel expenses in respect of conferences, through the funding of proofreading and language editing, up to support for international cooperation projects. Doctoral candidates may also apply for independent funding on their own account. Via bridging grants for prospective doctoral candidates, outstanding Bremen students are encouraged to stay at the University of Bremen and obtain their doctorates here. Special grants are available to enable applicants to bridge the period prior to obtaining external funding. Post-docs at an early stage in their careers can receive support to set up independent research projects to be run under their own leadership and responsibility by applying for temporary positions. On the other hand, temporary positions for principal investigators offer advanced and international post-docs the opportunity to run their own independent four-year projects in an optimally conducive environment.

Focus projects of three-year duration enable members of faculty at the University of Bremen to implement new research ideas together with doctoral candidates, thereby enhancing their chances of successfully acquiring subsequent external funding. Projects in the humanities constitute a funding priority. Exploration projects provide established professors of the University of Bremen with “trust funding“ which enables them to embark on new research projects without the need for exhaustive preparatory work on their part. Via knock-on financing for new collaborative projects the University facilitates applications in coordinated programs and the accordant preparation phase. Last not least, success premiums are granted for the successful acquisition of external funding within the context of certain programs (initial DFG application, AvH).
