We hear the terms “political culture“, “corporate culture”, “media culture” and “alien cultures”, and then there are the expressions „Leitkultur“ [guiding culture] and cultural imperialism. Furthermore, our present-day cultures are strongly influenced by the media and can hardly be considered in isolation from television, cinema, radio and the Internet. Even though the works of Picasso and Co. were produced in an earlier epoch, today the field of art still occupies an important place in society. Bachelor studies in Art comprise subject areas of the fine arts: painting, sculpture, drawing, architecture, the performing arts and applied arts/design within the context of western art (Europe/USA). Classic, pop, rock. It can only be said: there are many more musical styles than musical notes. Bachelor studies in Musicology/Music Pedagogy at the University of Bremen take this diversity into account. Studies are structured along clear inner- and interdisciplinary lines, encompassing the historical, cultural and regional context of the origins of music, its dissemination and appropriation.
