German Studies/German

German Studies is concerned with the German language and its history, as well as with the development of German literature from medieval times up to the present day. Studies also encompass media products like films or computer games. Teacher-training programs include the didactics of teaching the German language. A feature of German Studies at the University of Bremen is its intercultural dimension: it is possible, for instance, to study German as a second language. Dutch Studies

About 22 million people in the Netherlands and Flanders speak Dutch. This makes Dutch one of the medium-sized languages of Europe. The degree program Dutch Studies is hosted by the University of Oldenburg: students of the University of Bremen can choose it either as a second or subsidiary subject, or as a first and major (not applicable to students studying to become teachers in the State of Bremen). Romance Studies

Romance Studies is concerned with the languages, literature, cultures and respective histories of French-, Spanish- and Italian-speaking countries. These include France, Spain and Italy, as well as Latin America, Canada, or parts of Africa. Students studying to become teachers also receive training in didactics. Slavic Studies are concerned with the languages, literatures and cultures of the Slavic peoples. At the University of Oldenburg the focus is on Poland or Russia, supplemented by Ukrainian. Students studying to become teachers also receive training in didactics.
