Postdoc Position

Postdoc Position in Paleoclimatology/Paleoceanography A106/13

at MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences (University of Bremen)

On 1st of July 2013 a new research project will start on the deciphering of variations in the hydrological cycle in Southern Africa, its dynamics and the underlying forces. The initiative, called RAIN (Regional Archives for Integrated Investigations), is designed in close cooperation with South African scientist and will focus on information, which will be gained from marine and terrestrial sedimentary climate archives. In total there are four scientific subprojects, two at both partner Universities in Jena and Bremen. During the funding period of three years, field trips, workshops, research stays in South African partner universities as well as two ship expeditions are planned.

Candidates should be trained in marine geology, sedimentology and/or marine geochemistry and should have obtained a PhD in Earth Sciences. Scientific publications in international journals are prerequisite for an application. In addition to the own, sub-project related research, support in project coordination and management is expected as well as participation in expeditions.

Analytical studies in this sub-project will have their focus in the application of inorganic methods (eg XRF, ICP-OES, grain size, stable isotopes, age model development). Additionally, the whole lab infrastructure at Marum could be used and integrated principally.

The project is financed by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
The 3-year-position is worth in the salary scale TV-L 13.

Beside your CV, applications must include:
