Being a Postdoc is a demanding role. You’re simultaneously a researcher, project lead, mentor, and expert, often juggling multiple projects under shifting supervisors, navigating hierarchical constraints and trying to keep your own research agenda alive while everyone else’s deadlines compete for your attention.
This workshop addresses exactly that reality. It brings together two skill sets that are crucial in Postdoc life: multi-project management (knowing where all your projects stand, spotting bottlenecks and making deliberate decisions about scope and priorities) and self-leadership: managing your time, energy and focus in a way that keeps you in the driver's seat rather than permanently in reactive mode.
In this workshop you'll work with methods that fit the conditions of the academic work: limited planability, power asymmetries, and the constant negotiation between what matters and what's just urgent.
What you'll take away:
● A clear picture of where your time and energy actually go. And where they should
● Practical tools for managing parallel projects and making priorities stick
● Strategies for protecting your focus, organising your work, handling the unexpected, and saying no without damage
● A personal toolkit, tailored to your own working style and context
Topics include: Circle of Control, multi-project tracking, bottlenecks & options, dealing with changes on the project, MoSCoW and 80/20 prioritization, Deep Work vs. Shallow Work, productive routines and task organisation, dealing with the unexpected and energy management.
Workshop content is adapted to participants' priorities based on a pre-workshop expectations survey.

The workshop is primarily aimed at members of the Bremen Advanced Scholars Network (BASnet).

Trainer profile
Patricia Meyer brings over 28 years of professional experience in various industries to the table. She is an experienced (and passionate!) project manager and - against the backdrop of her experience - has specialised in project management, team organisation / leadership, intercultural leadership, intercultural skills, time and self-management as well as supporting women on their career path.
She joined Lukas Bischof Hochschulberatung at the beginning of 2020 and now combines ‘the best of both worlds’: her practical experience from business with her experience in academia where she has supported researchers (and their projects) through workshops, coachings and project support.
Following her training as an editor, Patricia Meyer completed an interdisciplinary journalism degree programme at the Journalisten-Kolleg of Freie Universität Berlin. She holds the academic degree of Licentiata rerum publicarum (Lic. rer. publ.).
