Subject

Professional negotiation is regarded as a basic competence in the job.

The method of ‘principled negotiating’ (in Germany called the ‘Harvard Method’) was developed by the Harvard Negotiating Project. The main goal of this method of negotiating is to reach an outcome, that provides the greatest possible benefit for all negotiating parties.

Content and topics:
In the workshop, students get to know the basics of this negotiation method and actively practice all phases in exercises:

  • Harvard Getting to Yes (all five steps): reaching a "wise agreement"
  • Harvard getting past No: dealing with conflicts and barriers in negotiations
  • Planning tools for negotiations – "3D model"
  • Negotiation and Communication: strategies for different situations

Goals: Students are familiar with all steps of the Harvard Method and are able to use it actively in their own negotiations.
