Salary group 13 TV-L / full-time position

MARUM provides an ideal environment for postdoctoral scientists to become excellent in their field of expertise and to develop their personal skills. The Research Faculty offers rich opportunities for transdisciplinary exchange and collaboration across different disciplines in marine sciences. Postdoctoral scientists can make use of coaching and mentoring offers as well as a dedicated course and training program. MARUM has developed into an internationally recognized center for marine research with a focus on the geosciences, anchored at the University of Bremen.

The Cluster of Excellence “The Ocean Floor – Earth’s Uncharted Interface” is part of the Research Faculty MARUM. Within the Cross-Cutting Enabler “Molecular and Isotopic Tracers” the work for the position is settled in the area of cheminformatics focusing on the exploration, analysis and visualization of data.

Specific duties will include:

  1. Data modeling to facilitate the curation and ingest of raw chemical data in close cooperation with the PANGAEA data information system team.
  2. Design of exploratory routines for data analysis and interpretation through data mining and data visualization techniques.
  3. Use of statistical learning methods to infer relationships of environmental, molecular and chemical data such as concentrations, molecular ratios, compound-specific isotope ratios etc.
  4. Active participation and presentation of the research results at international conferences.
  5. Publication of research results in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Your profile:

  • A PhD degree in bio- or cheminformatics.
  • Scripting and programming experience in an open-source environment.
  • Experience in data visualization techniques and data mining by statistical learning.
  • Experience in multivariate statistical methods
  • Experience in working with large and heterogenous datasets and Big Data analysis.
  • Fluent in English with advanced writing skills.
  • Enjoy working in a vibrant team and an international and interdisciplinary research environment.
