PhD position on Human-Computer Interaction, Artificial Intelligence, and Disinformation in Bochum, Germany
Join us at the Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) gGmbH to develop AI tools for collaborative fact-checking and media literacy! In our new ClaimGuard project, we will develop an AI-based system that support collaborative fact-checking, strengthen media literacy, and create reusable data and software resources for research and real-world use. By leveraging dialogue-based AI tools, ClaimGuard helps people critically evaluate information, reconsider false claims, and reduce the spread of disinformation online.
Your Tasks:
• Review German and multilingual datasets and document results for reuse
• Build and maintain a German disinformation knowledge base for AI and research
• Conduct user research (e.g., surveys) to inform tools and knowledge base design • Develop a fact and source extractor for evidence from the knowledge base and news
• Co-organize the first large-scale Open Science disinformationcompetition: tasks, datasets, platform, and workshop
• Publish results at top conferences like ACM CHI and ACM CSCW We’re looking for candidates with:
• Master’s in Computer Science, HCI, AI, Data Science, Media Informatics, Digital Media, or related field
• Programming skills (Python, Ruby, Java, JavaScript, Dart, or equivalent)
• Interest in responsible AI, fact-checking, and building tools for real users
• Ability to work independently and document work clearly
• Very good English skills; residence in Germany
