Defence against oxidative stress and toxins
Therapeutic drugs, environmental toxins as well as oxidative stress are well know to affect brain function. To investigate the mechanisms involved in the adverse action of such compounds on the brain, we expose cultured brain cells to therapeutic drugs, toxins or peroxides and investigate consequences of such a treatment on cell viability, on basic cellular metabolism and on the glutathione defence system. In addition, we study the pathways involved in the metabolism and the detoxification of drugs and environmental toxins in brain cells.
