1183 universities all over the world took part in the “UI GreenMetric World University Ranking” in 2023, which assesses the sustainability of universities. The University of Bremen ranks 10th.

Further Research into Arctic Warming and its Global Impacts

The SFB/TRR 172 "(AC)³" has been awarded a new grant and will continue its research in the third phase of DFG funding for a further four years. The focus is on improving understanding and prediction models for the rapidly increasing warming in the Arctic.

Informatica Feminale Awarded Prize for Outstanding Gender Equality Work

The Informatica Feminale – International Summer University for Women in Computer Science was awarded the prize for outstanding gender equality work by the German Council of University Faculties in Computer Science. The prize was awarded this year for the first time.

The University of Bremen has once again secured a top position in the international Shanghai Ranking and has ranked first in Germany in the field of marine sciences. The university also leads the table of German universities in geosciences.

Material with Feelings: AI Helps to Detect Material Damage

The University of Bremen has achieved first results in the DFG Research Unit FOR 3022. Thanks to innovative sensor nodes, which are smaller than a coin, it is possible to detect and evaluate hidden damage in fiber metal laminates (FML).

High level of third-party funding

A great strength of the University of Bremen is its considerable success in the acquisition of third-party funds, both in individual as well as in collaborative research. The German Research Foundation (DFG) is the largest provider of third-party finance: Besides the MARUM Cluster of Excellence, the University of Bremen is currently involved in no less than seven Collaborative Research Centers, as well as a number of research groups and priority programs.

Strategic promotion of talent

The targeted promotion of young talent, unlocking potential, and early independence are among the guiding principles of the University of Bremen. The Student Advisor

Stephan Determann has been working at the Central Student Advisory Service (ZSB) for 24 years. Initially, he still received consulting inquiries by post. Today, as head of the ZSB, he manages offers ranging from the degree database to the information day for prospective students.

Every Friday, Adela Talipov switches back and forth between the university and her high school. As part of the early studies program, the 17-year-old student is attending a lecture on experimental physics. For her, it’s the perfect opportunity to get a taste of university life without the pressure.

The Apprenticeship Coordinator

The University of Bremen is not only a place for students and young researchers, but also trains about 80 young people in various professions every year. Silke Heinrich from the University of Bremen coordinates this area. She establishes contact with schools and educational institutions and promotes vocational training at the university to young people.
