With the "HR Excellence in Research Award", the EU Commission honors scientific institutions that offer scientists both good working conditions and an appropriate working environment. The award is based on the standards formulated in the "European Charter for Researchers" and the "Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers" both of which the University of Bremen fully endorses.
Since December 2020, the University of Bremen has been in the initial phase heading to this HR Award and is continuously working on the development and implementation of its own HR strategy for scientists. We are using the toolbox provided by the EU for our own "Human Resources Strategy for Researchers" (HRS4R).
In 2021, we developed a comprehensive status quo analysis and an action plan based on that analysis in a collaborative process together with scientists of all career levels, administrative staff and U Bremen interest groups. In the next phase, we will implement the actions (for details see HRS4R-report of the university). A first working paper on open, transparent and merit-based recruitment (OTM-R) will form the basis for our own OTM-R-strategy.
