BremenConnect: Alumni-Talk with Jana Wehmeyer

Together with the Alumni Association, an engaging talk was held on March 31, 2026, exclusively for ProMentes participants and recipients of the Germany Scholarship (Deutschlandstipendium), featuring geophysicist Jana Wehmeyer.

After completing her Master's degree in Geosciences at the University of Bremen, Jana Wehmeyer initially worked at the Universum® Science Center in Bremen and for several outdoor retail companies before joining FUGRO in April 2021.

The Dutch company provides geophysical, geotechnical, and contaminated land investigation services, as well as subsurface exploration for natural resources. Jana now works as an offshore geophysicist, most recently on assignments off the coast of South Africa. Her projects take her to locations around the world and typically last between three and six weeks.

During the event, she gave fascinating insights into her day-to-day work, her extraordinary workplace at sea, and her personal career journey. The subsequent discussion was lively and interactive, with participants asking thoughtful questions about career decisions, personal interests, and both technical and transferable skills. A key takeaway was the importance of reflecting on individual career paths rather than following predefined “recipes” for success.
