Sometimes the past and present are only a few steps apart. For Bastian Bullwinkel, this is quite literal: for the past ten years, he has been the press spokesperson for Universum® Bremen, located directly opposite the University of Bremen, where he began his political science studies around 20 years ago. Day after day, he looks out at a place that has had a decisive influence on both his professional and personal journey. This physical proximity also reflects his ongoing connection to the university, with which he remains closely involved as an alumni member to this day.Bastian Bullwinkel talks about his formative years as a student, the unique Bremen spirit, the value of networks, and why staying in touch with the university continues to matter long after graduation.

Anyone who studies, completes a doctorate, or pursues a habilitation at the University of Bremen usually takes away more than just a formal degree. Prof. Dr. Klaus Eickel, Professor of Medical Computing at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, is a good example of this. As an alumnus of the University of Bremen, he looks back on his doctoral years in an interview, talks about formative encounters, the networks that have grown over time, and explains why the Bremen location continues to captivate him to this day.

Let’s rather say, this conversation had a cappuccino length. Michael Wolff is not only active in film production but also – as an alumnus of the University of Bremen – deputy chairman of the board at Alumni der Universität Bremen e.V. We were, therefore, very interested in his memories of the university, his time as a student, campus life, and the time after.

Christoph Ranze neither was born nor grew up in Bremen. He, a farmer’s son from Lower Saxony, came to Bremen being specialized in AI after studying at the University of Applied Sciences in Trier.
