Despite a significant number of unreported cases, the Anti-Feminism Reporting Center has observed an escalation in anti-feminist attack patterns. In particular, attacks motivated by misogyny and gender-based violence are on the rise.

Particularly striking is the rise in attacks in the digital sphere: About one-third of documented incidents take place there. Added to this are new forms of violence enabled by the use of artificial intelligence. The case of a rape network organized via a messaging service, among others, illustrates just how drastic the impact of this trend is. In these groups, instructions on how to commit rape, information on how to sedate women, and photos and videos of the crimes were shared.

The number of attacks on feminist organizations is also reaching new highs. Women’s organizations, professional associations working in the field of gender-based violence, and committed individuals are particularly at risk. Incidents documented include threats, sexual assaults, property damage, arson, and the publication of the confidential addresses of women’s shelters.

Based on the available data, Palo Quirion is calling for a comprehensive strategy to address anti-feminism in politics and civil society: “The full scope of violence targeting gender equality and self-determination rights can only be effectively countered if the destructive effects of anti-feminism on democratic structures and principles are finally taken seriously.”
