As part of an academic exchange, members of our research group visited the Dipartimento di Fisica at the Politecnico di Milano. With the support of researchers there, we conducted studies on the electrochemical production of iron from iron oxide using in-situ Raman spectroscopy. In this method, the objective lens of a Raman microscope is immersed directly into the electrolyte, and the laser is focused on the surface of the working electrode while the electrochemical reaction takes place. The substances produced during the reaction can thus be identified immediately based on their Raman signal. The goal is to use the measured data to gain valuable insights into the underlying reaction mechanisms and reaction pathways. This exchange strengthens collaboration between the two working groups and provides insights into the fundamental mechanisms of electrochemical iron oxide reduction.
