As part of the DFG Priority Program 2433 “Measurement Technology on Flying Platforms,” the Data Science Center (DSC) organized a digital workshop on research data management and good scientific practice on March 26, 2025. The Priority Program is coordinated by BIMAQ at the University of Bremen and comprises 19 projects at locations throughout Germany.
The workshop was led by Dr. Susanne de Vogel and Sarah Büker as part of the BMFTR-funded Data Competence Center DataNord. Under the title “Introduction to FAIR Research Data Management & Galaxy,” participants received a concise introduction to key topics in research data management: What is research data? Why is good data management important? How do the FAIR principles help make data traceable, secure, and reusable? In addition, data management plans, practical tips for project structures, and the Galaxy project were presented.
Tailored Solutions for Cross-Site Research
The workshop illustrates how the DSC provides needs-based support to research consortia: Rather than focusing on general foundational training, the workshop centered on a format tailored to the requirements of an ongoing, multi-site DFG Priority Program. Especially in consortia with many project partners, a shared understanding of research data management is essential for facilitating collaboration, documentation, and the reuse of data in the long term.
For the DSC and DataNord, this type of offering is a key component in bringing data literacy directly into research contexts - in an accessible, practical way that is tailored to the needs of the respective community.
