The funded initiative marks the beginning of a cross-institutional collaboration that will take shape over the coming months through different exchange formats. The cooperation will start with the participation in a research colloquium at the IKMZ (Department of Communication and Media Research) at the University of Zürich. During the colloquium, DSC Seed Grant recipient Paul Pressmann (ZeMKI – Center for Media, Communication and Information Research) will present his ongoing dissertation work. His contribution will address data-driven approaches to investigating digital transformation processes in climate change-related science communication. The exchange at the colloquium will provide the opportunity to gather new impulses for the further development of the dissertation project.
In addition, a work meeting will be held to initiate the establishment of a cross-institutional collaboration between the ZeMKI Lab for Digital Communication and Information Diversity (Lab Head: Prof. Dr. Cornelius Puschmann) and the Science Communication Division at the IKMZ (Head of Department: Prof. Dr. Mike S. Schäfer). A return visit by a representative of the IKMZ is planned for fall 2026. The exchange will include a guest lecture at the ZeMKI lab, as well as further follow-up work meetings.
The long-term goal is to establish a sustainable cooperation between the two institutes. The collaboration is based on shared research interests in large-scale digital datasets and computational analytical methods in science and climate communication. The initiative thus also lays the groundwork for data exchange as well as joint research proposals and methodological development. In addition, the cooperation strengthens data science competencies and promotes the visibility of data-driven research at the University of Bremen.
