Torben Klarl received his diploma and Dr. rer. pol. degrees in Economics from the Augsburg University in 2006 and 2009, respectively. Prior completing his PhD, Torben worked as a guest researcher at the ZEW - Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research. After receiving his postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation), Torben was invited to stay at the Institute of Development Strategies at SPEA, Indiana University, Bloomington where he received the status as a research fellow. In October 2016, Torben starts his position as a Professor for Macroeconomics at the University of Bremen.

His current research interest lies in the identification of shocks using high frequency data and using complex network tools to explore the potential very-long run relationship between complexity and growth. He regularly employs tools from data science, such as dynamic factor models or complex network analysis in order to exploit both, the time as well as the frequency dimension of data. Moreover, he uses wavelet tools in order to identify causal drivers of climate change.

Torben is particularly interested in collaboration from the fields of quantitative history, geography and environmental sciences.
