We welcome your application to the MA Transcultural Studies program. Please pay attention to the information about the application process, which applies to German and international applicants alike.
The application deadline is June 15th for admission to the winter semester. You need to apply online.
The so-called “Aufnahmeordnung” (AO) defines the requirement for applications to the MATS program. A pdf version of the AO can be found under the Program Data Bank/Application and Admission of student services of Bremen University.
- Your personal letter of motivation should not exceed 2 pages
- The 130 CPs from a BA program are proved by a hardcopy of the transcript of records from the University where the BA was successfully completed
- the overall BA grade is acquired through the median of the grades from the Major and Minor programs
- A complete CV on education and professional practice
- Proof of language competences according to the guidelines of the AO-MA from 19.02.2014, Citation from §1, (1), b-d,

b. English language proficiency, at the minimum level B under the common European framework for languages. A university entrance qualification or University degree from an English medium institution are also accepted as proof of language proficiency.
c. Proficiency in a second language at the minimum A2 level under the common European framework for languagse. The classical languages Latin, Old Greek, and Hebrew are equivalent to a second language (2 successfully completed language courses). Turkish language proficiency is highly recommended for students applying to the double degree program “Intercultural/Transcultural Communication Studies” starting from the Bremen side. Students applying to the double degree program “Intercultural/Transcultural Communication Studies” starting from Istanbul are required to have German language skills.
d. German language proficiency in accordance with the language requirements of the “Ordnung über den Nachweis deutscher Sprachkenntnisse an der Universität Bremen” from January 25, 2012. This does not apply to students from the double degree program, beginning in Istanbul. The obligation to provide proof of language competence does not apply to applicants who completed their high school education at a German medium institution. ...”

Attention for international students: The same application requirements apply to prospective international students. Prospective students in this program have to provide proof of adequate German language competence. The University requires a minimum of 16 points in the TestDaF.
