Mailinglists
news.uni-bremen.de
Mailing lists are a core service in which lists of email addresses are securely stored on a server. People who want to send emails to members of a mailing list do not need to know the addresses of the other people on the list. They send the emails to the mailing list server, which then forwards them to all recipients on the list.
- The server news.uni-bremen.de hosts nearly 2,000 mailing lists, some of which have up to 20,000 subscribers.
- Some lists that are important for all university members and affiliates are automatically generated by the university’s Identity Management (IDM) system.
- Some of the lists have an archive.
- The public visibility of mailing lists can be controlled by the responsible list administrators.
- Subscribing to a mailing list is possible simply by providing an email address. However, list administrators can restrict subscriptions to University Account email addresses.
- Creating or administering a mailing list requires an University Account.
- Detailed instructions can be found in the menu of the respective instance at news.uni-bremen.de (Support → Documentation).
If you have questions about university accounts, please contact the IT Service Desk.
