In the middle of July, Iddo Wald successfully defended his dissertation with the honour of summa cum laude.

In his dissertation, “Sensory Substitution in Human-Computer Interaction—Bridging Computer Science, Design, and Cognitive Neuroscience” he investigates how sensory substitution devices (devices that convey sensory stimuli via a different sensory modality) can be used to restore, enhance, and alter human perception. He demonstrates that such devices can also influence bodily experience and psychological well-being. 

As part of his doctoral thesis, Iddo published twelve articles in leading journals and at conferences in the fields of HCI and neuroscience, including CHI, HRI, Scientific Reports, and PLOS ONE. 

Iddo was guided by Prof. Dr. Rainer Malaka, head of the Digital Media Lab and dean of Faculty 3 at the University of Bremen, as well as Prof. Dr. Pedro Lopes from the University of Chicago.
