Coupled Hydrogeophysical Monitoring
We utilize the METER HyProp (evaporation method) to generate high-resolution soil water retention curves (SWRC) and unsaturated hydraulic conductivity functions.
Our setup goes beyond standard bulk measurements. We have extended the HyProp system with a custom laboratory-scale 4D Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) array.
- Purpose: This allows us to map the internal 4D soil moisture dynamics spatially during the sample drying process.
- Application: Instead of assuming a homogeneous drying front, we can visualize heterogeneity, anisotropy and local gradients within the sample cylinder in real-time.
- Key Capability: Simultaneous calibration of petrophysical relationships (resistivity vs. water content) under controlled evaporation conditions.
