Student Finance and Grants
In accordance with the Bremen Student Accounts Act of 2010, students with children can apply for their tuition fees to be deferred, reduced, or waived for up to six semesters after they have used up their student account credits, if they have cared for and raised a child under the age of twelve during their studies. These cases are regulated in Article 5 Use of Student Account Credits.

There are some special rules for students with children who are applying for a BAföG student loan. You can get advice on this from the Social Counselling of the Student Services Organization or the BAföG and Social Counselling of the AStA student council.
Housing in Bremen
You can find reasonably prized rental apartments on the websites of Gewoba, BREBAU, the Bremer Wohnungsbaugenossenschaften (Bremen housing cooperations), or the Bremen bulletin board Schwarzes Brettunder housing offers (Wohnungsangebote) or shared flats (Wohngemeinschaften). Students with children can apply for housing allowance, as long as they or (a) person(s) they live with are not entitled to a BAföG student loan. For cheap second hand children’s clothing, toys, and household items, it is worthwhile to browse the websites of the Bremen bulletin board Schwarzes Brett (in German).
Additionally, there are foundations that support in particular people on low income:
- The Federal Foundation Mother and Child – provides financial support, for instance, towards a layette, household items etc.
- The Evangelical Church of Bremen, the Catholic Church, pro familia etc. also provide assistance for mothers-to-be.

The Social Counseling Service of the Student Services Organization advises you on grants, scholarships, and other forms of financial assistance.
