FinDMB

The FinDMB project is developing and testing an educational game on financial literacy.

This learning resource is aimed at adult migrants who have come to Germany as skilled workers, through family reunification, for educational reasons, or as refugees, and who are learning German, as well as older teenagers in vocational preparation courses at vocational schools. The program thus addresses learners who are learning German as an educational and professional language, are intersectionally disadvantaged, and are still (or need to be) finding their way in the German financial, training, and labor markets.

The project is guided by the question:

How must educational games be designed to enable people who are learning German as an additional language for education and work to educate themselves financially and orient themselves professionally?

In terms of the scientific objectives, the following sub-questions in particular are being investigated in the context of this project:

How is it possible to design games/teaching materials for financial education in a way that is sensitive to diversity, so that they reflect the diversity of the target groups in a way that is relevant to their lives and address them in an empowering and motivating way?
How can social media and AI tools be integrated into game design in a way that stimulates learning and also ensures that the financial education content remains up to date beyond the research and development period?
How can multilingual game design for financial education be achieved that also enables collaborative play in multilingual groups of players?

The game development research to be carried out in the project is participatory and practice-oriented, involving learners and teachers in German courses and vocational preparation, as well as multipliers, in order to develop content closely aligned with the needs of the target group and to ensure that the educational offering is anchored in educational practice from the outset of the project.

The game will be available in printed form and in a print & play version.
