Cohomology jump loci are secondary cohomological invariants of discrete groups and topological spaces.  I will describe some recent work on the cohomology jump loci of complements of unions of complex  hypersurfaces.
Such "hypersurface arrangements" arise naturally in contexts of representation theory, singularity theory, and as parameter spaces in mathematical physics.  Their study involves a mix of combinatorics, homological algebra, and complex geometry.
