Your research officer for national funding programs can support you when applying for grant funding as a postdoctoral researcher or a professor. Our advisory service comprises all individual funding programs as well as funding programs for major collaborative, multi-disciplinary projects with a focus on DFG programs. If you have any questions or require assistance please contact research officer Dr. Uta Brathauer, at an early stage wherever possible. She offers individual counselling for first-time applicants, postdocs, newly appointed professors, junior professor and full professors.

  • Finding funding
  • Explaining the application process
  • Guidance on the Dos and Don’ts of successful grant-writing
  • Feedback on early drafts of the proposal
  • Advice on revising rejected proposals

Newsletter - Calls and Funding Opportunities

Funding your research in Germany

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has published a broschure with a selection of funding programmes for German and international academics run by the most important research funding institutions. Target group: international students, graduates, postdocs and academics interested in a research stay in Germany.

EU funding opportunities

The European commission provides research funding in nearly every thematic area in with a broad range of funding opportunities. The most comprehensive programme is the current research framework programme Horizon Europe (HEU).


Individual funding in Horizon Europe

Funding under the Framework Programme Horizon Europe mainly means topic-oriented collaborative research, but also provides for opportunities for open-topic individual funding under Pillar 1 (Excellent Science).

We propose suitable funding possibilities for your project and support you during the application process, the budget calculation, the grant preparation and in the course of the project. For question regarding EU training programmes (e.g. Erasmus+) please contact the International Office.

The German Academic Exchange Service - DAAD is the first point of contact for individual grants abroad and for grants for international researchers in Germany.

In addition, there are programme lines for project funding in research and teaching.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation promotes international cooperation in research and primarily awards scholarships and research prizes. Today, the Humboldtians' network comprises 28,000 scholarship holders and alumni in over 140 countries.
