Within the memorandum of understanding between University of Bremen and Vietnamese-German University Prof. Gros visited VGU from 17.9 to 28.9.2018. Besides teaching lectures, the visit served the preparation of the upcoming student and staff Erasmus+ mobility projects between the two institutions.

On 19.11.2018 Prof. Gros attended the annual workshop of the German capital market authority in Frankfurt and took part in the discussions among regulators, enforcers, researchers and practitioners on recent developments in enforcement and the electronic reporting format ESEF.

An articel with the titel "Berichterstattungsfrequenz im Wandel - Bestandsaufnahme bisheriger empirischer Evidenz zur Wirkung einer erhöhten Berichtsfrequenz" written by Prof. Dr. Marius Gros and Jessica Witte was published in the journal "Der Konzern" (issue 10/2018).

With regard to the recent deregulation of quarterly reporting in Europe, the article reviews the current state of empirical accounting research concerning a change in the reporting frequency.

With its 56. supplement Prof. Dr. Gros together with Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Böcking, Prof. Dr. Peter Oser,Prof. Dr. Eberhard Scheffler and Prof. Dr. Bettina Thormann became a co-editor of the renowned handbook. The Beck´sches Handbuch der Rechnungslegung addresses relevant accounting issues on the basis of the up-to-date legislation and jurisdiction from an business, commercial and tax law perspective.

Prof. Gros re-appointed to the Consultative Working Group of the European Securities and Markets Authority

For another two years from April 2019 onwards, Prof. Dr. Marius Gros has been appointed to the Consultative Working Group of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). ESMA is based in Paris and is entrusted with the task of contributing to the stability and effectiveness of the financial system through regulatory proposals and interventions. During his two-year period of office in the Consultative Working Group of the Corporate Reporting Standing Committee, Professor Gros will address current issues in accounting regulation and issues concerning the enforcement of a uniform and accurate application of international accounting in the EU.

New publication in the Management Review Quarterly

A replication study titled „Revisiting the effectiveness of German accounting enforcement reforms: a replication study“ conducted by Alexander Nevrela, M.Sc. and Prof. Dr. Marius Gros has been accepted for publication in the Management Review Quarterly.

The study will be published in the printed version of the journal, soon. It is already available online at: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11301-019-00162-9

The paper replicates a study by Ernstberger, Stich and Vogler from 2012 titled „Economic consequences of accounting enforcement reforms: the case of Germany” and extends the survey by a longer-term observation.

Cooperation with Vietnamese-German University and new publication

Once again we would like to welcome two Vietnamese exchange students within our Erasmus+ funded student exchange program with Vietnamese-German University. In turn, two students from University of Bremen are granted the possibility to study at VGU and to gain intercultural experiences in Vietnam.

Beyond our student exchange program, our cooperation with VGU also offers possibilities for conduction joint research projects. A recent study by Tobias Henke and Marius Gros on the “The Association among Corporate Governance, Corruption, and Economic Prosperity in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam” has been accepted for publication in Accounting, Economics, and Law: A Convivium. (both Goethe University Frankfurt) and Prof. Dr. Marius Gros discuss the consequences of a recent court ruling for the German accounting enforcement.
