                            <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>&nbsp;</p><p class="text-justify">Coastal ecosystems exist (and survive) on account of the interaction between biological, physical, and chemical processes. This interaction is particularly visible in the way in which water flows through, against, and over, bio-physical structures but also maintains those structures with which such ecosystems are associated. The size and scale of these interactions, however, matters, and is intrinsically connected to the time-scale over which restoration is envisaged.</p><p class="text-justify">This talk will illustrate the different scales of interactions of geomorphological and biological processes through the lens of bio-geomorphology. It will further highlight how uncertain outcomes are an intrinsic characteristic of an inherently unpredictable coastal system. What ‘nature-based solution’ and coastal ‘rewilding’ mean is important when managing expectations around restoration in the absence of predictable outcomes. The notion of land- and sea-scape restoration emerges from this. In this context, the role of local communities has been explored recently within the EU-funded NATURESCAPES and REWRITE projects, leading to the suggestion of a new way of working with, and generating, knowledge for transformative change.</p><p><a href="/fileadmin/user_upload/fachbereiche/fb8/ifg/Institut/Ankuendigung_Geogr_Kolloq_Moeller-.pdf" target="_parent" class="/download-link">Plakat</a></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p>]]></content:encoded>

                            <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>&nbsp;</p><p><br>Sea-level science has seen many recent developments in observations<br>and modelling of the different contributions and the total mean sea-level<br>change. In this talk I will discuss past developments in sea-level<br>modelling (going from IPCC AR5 to SROCC and AR6), and what are the<br>main differences in methods and in results. I will then show how the<br>models compare to observations, and present thoughts on extending<br>these comparisons back into the 20th century. Finally, I will discuss the<br>outlook for further improvements in sea-level projections.<br>Dr. Aimée Slangen is senior researcher at the Royal Netherlands Institute<br>for Sea Research (NIOZ) in Yerseke. Her research focus is sea-level<br>change, both in the open ocean and the interaction at the coast. With her<br>research group, she aims to improve our understanding of sea-level<br>change in the past, as well as making better projections for the future.<br>She was Lead Author of the IPCC AR6 report, on Chapter 9: Oceans,<br>Cryosphere and Sea Level Change.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><a href="/fileadmin/user_upload/fachbereiche/fb8/ifg/Institut/240909_poster_vortrag_aimee.pdf" target="_blank" class="/download" title="Leitet Herunterladen der Datei ein">Plakat</a></p>]]></content:encoded>
