WG Geomorphology and Coastal Dynamics

The Geomorphology and Coastal Dynamics working group investigates geomorphological processes in coastal systems, particularly coastal ecosystems, and their interactions with human and climatic factors. Teaching and research encompass aspects of global climate change and sea-level rise in coastal regions, their impacts on coastal systems, and the integration of nature-based solutions for adapting coastal zones to global change. In addition to conveying theoretical knowledge, practical application through fieldwork, laboratory experiments, and computer-based modelling plays a crucial role. Methodologically, this includes measuring and modelling recent hydro- and morphodynamic processes, reconstructing past coastlines from sediment cores and modeling coastal (eco)systems in the context of global change. Interdisciplinary collaboration, especially for developing coastal management plans, is essential.
