Information on the Corona Pandemic

  • We keep you up-to-date!

Current information on life, studies, and work at the University of Bremen during the corona pandemic.

The University of Bremen is working with the Level Plan for Teaching, which is based on the incidence rate in Bremen city and the situation on campus. The University of Bremen crisis team determines and decides which level of the Level Plan for Teaching applies on campus.

At the moment, we are on level 0 of the Level Plan for Teaching.

No 3G access controls will be carried out at buildings. Social distancing rules no longer apply and all buildings are freely accessible. There is no longer be a requirement to wear a mask in university buildings. Lectures, seminars, practical sessions, and tutorials can take place in person once more and without any restrictions. Student working spaces can also be booked again as usual.

In view of the high infection figures, the University Executive Board urgently asks you to continue to be cautious, show solidarity with vulnerable people, and recommends that you wear an FFP2 mask indoors and in situations where many people come together in a small space. Unlike medical masks, FFP2 masks protect wearers well from a COVID-19 infection.

A full triple vaccination also significantly reduces the risk of infection. Therefore, the University Executive Board asks you again to get vaccinated if you are not yet fully vaccinated. Vaccination is, and will continue to be, the best protection against a severe course of disease in the event of a corona infection. The booster vaccination makes a significant difference in both infection protection and disease progression. For information on dates and locations, visit the Senator for Health's website at

Information on Studying

Together with the senatorial authority and the other universities in Bremen State, the University of Bremen has decided to offer face-to-face classes without restrictions in the summer semester 2022. A statement from the universities and the Senator for Science and Ports can be found (in German) at

Digital formats are to be continued in those areas where they have proven their worth - in so-called blended learning scenarios. Face-to-face and online formats should be combined in such a way that the university can profit from the advantages of both forms of teaching and learning.

The exam regulations decided upon by the Academic Senate in the winter semester 2021/22 no longer apply. The original regulations have come into force once again. This means: if students have registered for an exam but do not take it, the exam counts as failed. The deadline regulations are also back in effect again as usual. If students are unable to take an exam due to a corona infection, the Examination Office will require a certificate of incapacity / doctor's note. Only examinations that explicitly belong to the winter semester and are only able to take place now because, for example, no examination date could be found beforehand, still fall under the exception regulation applying to the winter semester. If students are unsure which regulation applies to them, they should contact their examiner.

The following applies to university staff:

Regarding working from home, until the mobile work agreement goes into effect, employees, in consultation with supervisors, will be able to perform work tasks from home on a limited basis, as long said tasks can be completed without restriction.

Generally, the university management asks for caution to be applied in terms of work trips.

On the Senator for Health’s website, you can find information on testings:

You are no longer required to inform the University of Bremen if you have tested positive for corona.

The following applies for staff: A quarantine letter does not function as a doctor’s note stating your inability to work. Should you for health reasons not be able to carry out your tasks from home, you require a doctor’s note in addition to the quarantine letter.
