Professor at the University of Bremen from 1994 to 2020, specialising in nursing science and gerontology. Founding member and long-standing director of the Institute for Public Health and Nursing Research (IPP). Dean of Faculty 11, Human and Health Sciences and member of the Academic Senate. After retirement, coordination and development of the "Integrated Health Campus Bremen" on behalf of the Senator for Science, Free Hanseatic City of Bremen

Prizes
2010 Schönwald Prize together with Dr Martina Stöver for the outstanding realisation of a research project on dementia, awarded by the German Alzheimer Society, donated by the Schönwald Foundation.
2015 Prize of the Medical University of Poznań/Poland for successful cooperation in the field of care for the elderly and training of carers.
