Description
The dissertation project is part of a framing study entitled “Nurse-led Unit at KBR: Mixed-Methods Study on the Development, Implementation, and Evaluation of a Nurse-led Ward in a Hospital,” which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space. The study aims to develop a concept for an NLU in a hospital in Germany.
The cumulative dissertation project includes three sub-studies in which the requirements for nurses on a NLU and the expectations and experiences of employees, patients, and relatives are examined and evaluated. The dissertation project implements the qualitative research component of the NLU study.
Qualitative cross-sectional designs are applied, in which various forms of interviews are used in the data collection. Depending on the sub-study, various qualitative analyses (e.g. qualitative content analysis and grounded theory) are also implemented. Particular importance is attached to the experiences of nurses with taking on expanded areas of responsibility, decision-making autonomy, and autonomy in their practice.
The aim is to gain insights into the structures and processes of an NLU from the perspective of stakeholders and to examine how a NLU can be implemented sustainably.
