The doctoral project examines the interface between geriatric psychiatry and nursing homes for people with dementia and challenging behaviour. The aim is to identify gaps in interface care to develop a complex interface intervention tailored to needs.
As part of a cumulative doctoral programme, a three-part problem analysis will be conducted of (re)admissions to geriatric psychiatry of people with dementia and challenging behaviour who live in nursing homes.
In the first part, an integrative review will map the available evidence to provide an
overview of the determinants of (re)admissions to geriatric psychiatry in cases of challenging behaviour by people with dementia from nursing homes.
In the second part, a qualitative cross-sectional study using problem-centred interviews (PCI) will be conducted to gather the views of stakeholders at the interface (general practitioners and specialists, nursing staff, care managers) to gain a deeper understanding of the problem and its causes and (effective) factors.
In the third part, the findings from the first two parts are used to develop a socio-ecological model that illustrates the cause-and-effect principle.
