The Annual Meeting of Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) Programme Managers in Africa took place in Malawi from 13th to 16th April. During this event, experts and programme managers discussed strategic solutions for global NTD efforts. NTDs affect more than 1.65 billion people worldwide and often those of working age, causing significant economic damage. A cost-benefit analysis revealed that every US dollar invested in combatting NTDs could generate around 25 US dollars in economic benefits.
The meeting focused on the economic benefits of prevention and treatment measures, mobilising domestic resources, innovative financing models, and new approaches to research, diagnostics, and AI. Anil Fastenau, who is also Global Health Advisor at the German Leprosy and Tuberculosis Relief Association (DAHW), also met the Malawian Minister of Health to discuss the elimination of leprosy in Malawi and how the DAHW could support this goal.
