This project investigates long-term maternal health impacts of heat during pregnancy and how these are influenced by social nequalities, therewith addressing underrecognized health inequities in women's health related to climate change.

Heat is a global concern and pregnant women are particularly vulnerable. While research has primarily documented impacts of heat during pregnancy on offspring health, adverse experiences during pregnancy can also impact maternal health across the life course. This implies that long term women's health inequities – which are avoidable and judged as unfair - related to climate change may remain underrecognized. This project addresses this gap focusing on heat during pregnancy in West Africa, a region disproportionally affected by global warming and with high maternal morbidity rates.
