Description

Physical inactivity and poor dietary habits are important preventable risk factors for non-communicable diseases worldwide. The World Health Organization identified both areas as key areas for future action. Digital interventions in particular have great potential to reduce the burden of disease caused by these risk factors.

The Cochrane Collaboration also recognizes the urgency of identifying effective interventions in this field and has established the thematic focus group “Nutrition and Physical Activity” in 2023. In scope of the ScoPan project “Interventions or strategies targeting physical activity or nutrition in Cochrane reviews: A scoping review” Cochrane Public Health Europe (CPHE) scientists are working with experts from the field of physical activity and nutrition to produce a scoping review.

This study aims to identify interventions or strategies targeting PA or nutrition in any populations and settings using a scoping review of Cochrane reviews.

The specific aims are (1) to map the Cochrane review content by describing the target populations and interventions or strategy types related to PA or nutrition and (2) to determine if stakeholders were involved in Cochrane review production, (3) to examine how Cochrane reviews were disseminated online. The research questions are:

1) What are the bibliographic, population, and intervention (or strategy) characteristics of Cochrane reviews targeting PA or nutrition?

2) Were any stakeholders involved in the production of such reviews?

3) How were such reviews disseminated online?
