Description

Primary care in Germany faces major challenges: demographic change is increasing the demand for healthcare services, while at the same time it is necessary to ensure continuity of care in areas where medical and nursing care is insufficient.

This dissertation focuses specifically on how younger adults with chronic or long-term illnesses cope with their condition. It examines the extent to which the concept of community health nursing (CHN) is suitable for achieving better coping with chronic illness by taking into account the experiences and living conditions of those affected. In a multi-stage mixed-method design, the fields of activity of CHNs are first explored, then the coping strategies of younger adults are qualitatively analyzed, and finally the effectiveness of CHNs' activities on patients' coping is examined. The implications derived from this reveal starting points for future CHN practice in Germany.
