Cultivating Mental Health Promotion for University Students – The CAMPUS Project

The CAMPUS consortium project investigates the mental health status and well-being of university students in Germany, examining associated risk and protective factors at both the individual and structural level. The major research aim is investigating the mental health of students during vulnerable phases and examining the mental health of marginalized student groups.

The CAMPUS project is a collaborative initiative involving the University of Bremen, Martin-Luther-University Halle, the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology - BIPS, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. Dr. Stefanie Helmer is the lead of the cooperation project. 

By bringing together five research institutions, the project adopts a multi-perspective and multi-method approach—combining the collection of primary data, analysis of secondary data, and an in-depth qualitative investigation. A particular emphasis is placed on co-developing actionable recommendations with relevant stakeholders. Using a co-creation approach, researchers and stakeholders jointly design an evidence-based framework for promoting the mental health of university students. 

Through this consortium project, a significant contribution is made toward strengthening health-promoting university cultures and improving the mental health of university students in Germany in a long-term, evidence-based manner.
