InnovationsCommunity Urban Health – experts by lived experience (ICUH-LWE)
Description
Urban Health aims to create healthy and equitable living conditions in cities. Despite existing knowledge and strategies, implementation deficits in health-promoting urban development persist in practice. Old-industrial and socially disadvantaged urban areas face particular challenges, such as unequal health opportunities, limited social participation, and poor environmental quality. At the same time, these neighborhoods offer potential for socio-ecological transformation and hold valuable experience in addressing social and structural issues.
This interdisciplinary project tests the approach of experts by lived experience in urban health within the InnovationsCommunity Urban Health. Key components include the acquisition and qualification of experts by lived experience, the establishment and expansion of such networks in the Ruhr Area and in Bremen/Bremerhaven. The project aims to involve people from different communities with implicit knowledge in research, practice, and education to develop context-specific solutions for equitable, health-promoting urban development.
The three-year project is being implemented in collaboration with the Bochum University of Applied Sciences. The research focus of the Department of Social Epidemiology at the IPP is on the initial development, testing, and evaluation of an evaluation-concept for co-design processes with experts by lived experience.
