We are pleased to invite you to join the forthcoming launch of the WHO fact sheet series on environmental health inequalities, which will take place virtually on 16 February 2022, 11.00–12.30 CET. The event aims to inform actors and sectors involved in environmental conditions and their distribution, social protection, health equity, and environment and health inequality data and statistics.
Speakers at the launch event will include Professor Sir Michael Marmot (University College London, United Kingdom) and Professor Gabriele Bolte (University of Bremen, Germany). Further comments and insights on environmental equity monitoring and action will be provided by WHO and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, as well as the Senate of Berlin (Germany), Sciensano (Belgium) and EuroHealthNet.
Inequalities in environmental exposure exist in all countries across the WHO European Region (see here), in turn contributing to health inequity. To document and report on the magnitude of such inequalities within countries on a regular base, WHO will launch the first seven fact sheets on environmental health inequalities in relation to housing conditions (overcrowding, dampness, thermal comfort, availability of basic facilities) and access to safe and clean drinking-water and sanitation services. This marks the establishment of a series of fact sheets on the unequal distribution of environmental health risks, with further fact sheets coming forward on an annual base.
The fact sheet series on environmental health inequalities is produced by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Environmental Health Inequalities at the Institute of Public Health and Nursing Research of the University of Bremen, Germany, in collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for Europe.
