With the Nursing Assistant Professions Act (PflFAssG), a new nationally standardized, 18-month generalist nursing assistant profession has been established. Training programmes may commence from 1 January 2027.

The framework curricula submitted to the responsible federal ministries provide guidance for nursing schools and providers of practical training in developing institution-specific curricula and training plans. They also serve as a reference for the federal states in developing their own framework curricula or guidelines.

As Chair of the Expert Commission pursuant to Section 53 of the Nursing Professions Act (PflBG), Prof. Dr. Ingrid Darmann-Finck of the IPP played a leading role in the development of the framework curricula. “A particular challenge was to translate the training objectives set out in the Nursing Assistant Professions Act and the competencies specified in the Training and Examination Ordinance into a coherent curricular framework, while clearly defining the scope of practice of nursing assistants in relation to that of registered nurses.”

The framework curricula are expected to be published during the first half of August.
