Dr. Fabienne Pradella from the Department of Social Epidemiology attended the UN Climate Conference SB64 in Bonn in June 2026 as an observer for the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology. The interim negotiations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change prepared COP31 and brought together delegates from governments, academia, business and civil society.

Her participation focused on events at the intersection of climate change and health. Topics included the role of scientific evidence in the often highly technical climate negotiations as well as discussions, particularly in side events, on health inequalities and climate justice.

Health is gaining importance in international climate policy and is expected to be a priority at COP31. For environmental and social epidemiology, this creates points of connection for making the health impacts of climate change and their unequal social distribution more visible.
