On 3–4 July 2026, the Public Health Ethics Working Group (AEM/DGPH) held the workshop Methods in Public Health Ethics. Part 1: Case Discussions at the Institute of Ethics, History and Theory of Medicine, LMU Munich. The workshop brought together scholars to discuss current methodological challenges and future directions in case-based approaches within Public Health Ethics (PHE).
PD Dr. Solveig Lena Hansen from the Institute for Public Health and Nursing Research (IPP) at the University of Bremen was involved.
The programme included presentations by invited scholars, moderated small-group case discussions, systematic methodological reflections, and plenary discussions involving all participants. Bringing together practical experience, methodological expertise, and normative-theoretical perspectives from applied ethics and political philosophy, the workshop fostered an in-depth exchange on methods of case-based ethical analysis and decision-making in PHE. As the first event in a broader workshop series, the meeting laid the foundation for continued collaboration on the further development of methodological approaches in Public Health Ethics and contributed to strengthening the quality of ethical analysis and decision-making in public health practice.
