ICSID conference "Comparative Perspectives on the Political Economy of Development"

The annual conference of our institutional partner, the International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development (ICSID) at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, took place last week, between June 9 and 11. Despite the unusual online format, the conference was a big success, and the quality of the presented research output was as high as always.

The event brought together many of our colleagues and friends, e.g. Thomas Remington (Emory University) and Amanda Zadorian (HSE), but also some ‘new faces’ -  researchers who took part in the conference for the first time. The participants discussed a broad spectrum of issues in political science and economics mostly focusing on non-democratic regimes and transition economies. Topics varied from the electoral influence of the Russian Orthodox Church and effects of historical legacies on development to conspiracy claims in Russia and judicial corruption in Pakistan.

The International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development was founded in 2011 so next year’s conference will mark its 10th anniversary.  Michael Rochlitz has been taking part in the event since 2013, and Olga Masyutina was responsible for organizing it for five years while working at the HSE. We look forward to joining the 10th offline ICSID conference in Moscow again next summer.
